Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich commended Al Sharpton for his “discipline” in losing weight in an MSNBC interview tonight, before launching a discussion on Gov. Mitt Romney’s jobs record in Massachusetts.

“I have to tell you, we haven’t been together recently,” said Gingrich. “I am so impressed with your discipline and the way you have lost weight that I am just in admiration of you. I want you to know I’m starting the show a little bit awestruck. You have shown enormous discipline, and you are a role model for those of us who need to follow in your culinary footstep.”

“Well good,” responded Sharpon. “I hope after we are finished I will still be a role model.”
