New York Fire Dept. Confirms Crane Collapse At 157 W. 57th St.

A spokesperson for the New York Fire Department told TPM that the agency has only one confirmed report of a crane collapse due to Hurricane Sandy at the high-rise on 157 W. 57th St as of Monday at 3:50 p.m. EST, contrary to other reports that said another crane had collapsed at or near One World Trade. 

The spokesperson told TPM that the FDNY was blocking off the immediate area in a six block radius around the building at 157 W. 57th St. and had not yet made contact with the developer of the property, nor the construction company. The FDNY spokesperson did not have a sense on whether or not any part of the crane was in danger of plummeting to the ground. No additional efforts were being made to secure the crane at this time.
