A new poll by WWL-TV in Louisiana Wednesday has Newt Gingrich leading the the GOP pack by a large margin. Gingrich now has 31% of the vote, followed by Romney at 23%, Cain with 12% and Perry with 11%. This is a shocking rise for Gingrich, who just last month polled at 4% in the state.

The poll demonstrates the degree to which Gingrich is beginning to challenge Mitt Romney for frontrunner status. It also shows just how far Perry and Cain have fallen, even in the South. Louisiana’s primary is on March 24.
