One issue Rick Perry is pushing on the campaign trail is the idea of a part-time Congress, similar to what Texas has now. Monday, the Perry camp put up a 30-second ad on Iowa broadcast and cable television promoting that idea further. The ad highlights the fact that many of his opponents in the race were in Congress, likely a smart move since Congress is currently suffering from a record-low approval rating.

As the ad begins, an announcer says: “If Washington’s the problem, why trust a congressman to fix it? Among them, they’ve spent 63 years in Congress, leaving us with debt, earmarks, and bailouts.
Congressmen get $174,000 a year and you get the bill.”
