Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s (R-KY) re-election campaign is out with a new ad responding to Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes’s (D) fiery web ad blaming McConnell for gridlock during the government shutdown.

McConnell’s new ad, called “Leading America,” first splices together clips of newscasters and President Barack Obama discussing partisan gridlock in Washington, D.C. Then slides read “while everyone was talking, one man from Kentucky was leading.” Those slides are followed by more news clips, this time of lawmakers and TV pundits discussing McConnell’s role in ending the shutdown.

McConnell largely stayed out of the government shutdown fight earlier this month until discussions began to include raising the debt ceiling. After that McConnell said there would be no future government shutdowns caused by disagreements over whether to fund Obamacare or not.
