A Democratic super PAC is up with a new ad attacking Republican Jesse Kelly in the special election to fill the seat vacated by Gabrielle Giffords. The ad, from House Majority PAC which is backed by Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, highlights one particularly unsavory comment Kelly made about Giffords when he ran against her in 2010. She beat Kelly but was shot a few months later, leading to her eventual resignation from Congress. “And now she stands there with that smile and pretends to be some kind of hometown hero,” Kelly said. “She’s a hero of nothing!”

The ad also hits on some of Kelly’s more extreme positions, like calling for a corporate tax rate to be zero, eliminating the minimum wage and calling Social Security and Medicare “the biggest ponzi scheme in history.” After the clip of Kelly going after Giffords, the narrator asks, “Do you really want Jesse Kelly representing you?”

Kelly is running against former Giffords aide Ron Barber. The election is June 12.
