Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday defiantly pushed back against international criticism toward his government’s plans to expand settlements in Jerusalem and the West Bank.

“We will carry on building in Jerusalem and in all the places that are on the map of Israel’s strategic interests,” Netanyahu said at his weekly cabinet meeting.

Last week’s announcement to begin construction of 3,000 homes in Jerusalem and the West Bank was less than 24 hours removed from a vote by the United Nations General Assembly to give non-member state status to Palestine.
