Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu began his Tuesday speech by apologizing for any issues he caused with his address to Congress.

“I know that my speech has been the subject of much controversy,” he said. “I deeply regret that some perceive my visit here as political. That was never my intention.”

Netanyahu said that U.S.-Israel relations are “always above politics.”

“We share a common destiny,” he said, thanking the U.S. for its support.

“We appreciate all that President Obama has done for us,” Netanyahu continued. “I will always be grateful to President Obama for that support.”
