Incumbent Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson and Republican challenger Rep. Connie Mack met in their one and only Florida Senate debate Wednesday night in what the Tampa Bay Times described as a “feisty” event that was “short on substance.”

One of the most memorable lines of the night came from Nelson. Several times, Mack attacked Nelson for doing one thing in Florida and another in Washington: “Senator, the people of the state of Florida are tired of you saying one thing to them and then going back to Washington, D.C., and voting with Barack Obama 98 percent of the time.”

Nelson finally responded, “Is that the only line that you have memorized?”

Throughout, Mack attacked Nelson for being a close ally of President Obama and Nelson attacked Mack’s record in Congress.
