NASA Mars Curiosity Rover flight engineer Bobak Ferdowsi (pictured above, via NASA), dubbed “Mohawk Guy” after his unique haircut was captured on NASA livestream during Mars Curiosity Rover’s descent to the Red Planet in August 2012, will be helping design a float of the rover for President Obama’s second-term inaugural parade on Monday, January 21. He’ll also appear in the parade, the President’s Inaugural Committee announced online Monday.
Ferdowsi will be working with other NASA staffers on the float, which will be the size of an SUV. He also declared that he’d be sporting a new hairstyle during the parade. As the PIC website quoted Ferdowsi:
While he’s not really a “parade person,” Bobak is getting ready to take part in this one. But he plans on sporting a slightly different ‘do: “It’ll be something fun for the parade. It’s a bit of a surprise.” The new look will no doubt inspire President Obama, who was fighting back an impulse to don his own mohawk after seeing Bobak’s in August: “I, in the past, thought about getting a mohawk myself, but my team keeps on discouraging me.”
Meanwhile, other NASA stafffers will be working on a float of the agency’s still-in-development Orion crew capsule, designed to take astronauts past the International Space Station and further into deep space.
