House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) on Thursday called upon former colleague and Mayor Bob Filner (D) to spare the city of San Diego the expense of a recall effort and simply step down.

“Mayor Filner is out of rehab, he should be out of the Mayor’s Office — should not subject San Diegans to pain & expense of a recall,” Pelosi tweeted.

Two women, including a great-grandmother employed by the city, came forward to accuse Filner of sexual harassment Thursday, bringing the total number to sixteen.

Pelosi previously criticized Filner for being “disrespectful of women.”

“The conduct of some of these people that we are talking about here is reprehensible,” she told reporters in July. “It is so disrespectful of women. And what’s really stunning about it is that they don’t even realize it. They don’t even have  a clue…. If they are clueless, get a clue. If they need therapy, get it in private.”
