In advance of Mitt Romney’s appearance with New Hampshire’s freshman Sen. Kelly Ayotte, New Hampshire Democrats argued that Ayotte will not be Romney’s vice presidential pick.

The release cited polling from this year and last year showing Ayotte’s approval is down 10 points among women and down 8 points overall in the last year.

“Romney may need a life raft if he stands too close to Kelly Ayotte. Her sinking poll numbers could put him even further underwater in New Hampshire,” said Raymond Buckley, chairman of the New Hampshire Democratic Party.

Ayotte has been a surrogate for Romney, particularly as the former governor seeks to win over women voters.
