Ann Romney said not entering the 2016 presidential race was the “right decision” in an interview with Politico published Tuesday.
“We thought about it for 20 seconds, put our toe in and then quickly withdrew,” she said.
Romney dismissed the rumors that former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush’s supporters pushed her husband out of the race.
“People say, ‘Well, the Bush people pushed you out,’ and all that,” she told reporter Kyle Cheney. “It’s just not true. I mean, if anything, that would’ve made us fight harder. That’s just not true. We together just came to the conclusion that it just wasn’t, the timing wasn’t right.”
Romney also talked about her multiple sclerosis diagnosis.
“My illness had a lot to do with Mitt making health care available to all of Massachusetts,” Romney said. “I think it was a piece of his heart that was important to him. I feel like my life had some impact on health care and availability for all.”
