A top Mississippi lawmaker on Thursday reached out to 14 gun manufacturing companies to urge them to set up shop in the state, the Clarion-Ledger reported.

“Gun manufacturers are under attack in anti-Second Amendment states,” Mississippi state House Speaker Philip Gunn (R) said, according to the Clarion-Ledger. “Today, I wrote a letter to CEOs of leading firearm manufacturers urging them to relocate to Mississippi where their industry and jobs will be appreciated.”

Gunn continued, “We need more businesses to establish home base in Mississippi. We can provide these companies with an educated workforce, a superior quality of life, an evolving education system for their children, and the peace of mind that comes with knowing we support their industry.”

Gunn sent his letters to companies in states less gun-friendly than Mississippi: Colorado, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Maryland and North Carolina.
