Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett will soon announce his decision on whether to run in the upcoming recall against Republican Gov. Scott Walker, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Barrett said he will make his decision after state election officials trigger the recall — a decision that is scheduled to take place on March 30 — and before April 3, the election day for many local offices in the state, when he is up for re-election as mayor. After the recall is certified on March 30, the filing deadline for candidates will be on April 10, with contenders required to also submit at least 2,000 signatures on ballot petitions.

Barrett was the Democratic nominee for governor in 2010, losing to Walker by 52%-47% in an open-seat race during the Republican wave election.
