Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer, formerly a top Google exec, is pulling an “Oprah” and giving all employees the choice of a new company smartphone from among five different new models: Apple’s iPhone; three Android phone options: Samsung Galaxy S3 HTC One X, HTC EVO 4G LTE; or the Nokia Lumia 920, which runs Microsoft’s new Windows Phone 8, The Business Insider reported on Saturday. The company is also leaving RIM’s BlackBerry devices behind in the dust.

Now Microsoft is lobbying hard on social media for those Yahoo employees to choose the Nokia Lumia 920, which will involve an indefinite wait, as no release dates have been announced.

As The Next Web reported on Monday, Nokia’s head of media relations Doug Dawson tweeted with a special offer to sweeten the appeal of the company’s new smartphone: “Yahoo! employees: we’ll include a wireless charging plate with your Lumia 920. #worththewait”

Microsoft’s official Windows Phone Twitter account later tweeted a link to The Next Web report with the following message: “Thanks to @MarissaMayer for offering @Yahoo employees a free #Lumia920! Those choosing the Lumia get an awesome bonus http://newwp.it/Qgv87y”

It remains to be seen how many Yahoo employees take the bait.
