Michigan’s Republican governor on Tuesday denounced the latest incendiary remark from a state GOP official with a history of anti-gay rhetoric.

A spokesman for Gov. Rick Snyder (R) told the Huffington Post in an email that Michigan Republican National Committee member Dave Agema’s remarks over the weekend were “extreme and discriminatory.”

“We shouldn’t tolerate discrimination of any kind,” the spokesman said. “There shouldn’t be room for that in any political party. We must make sure everyone is treated with respect and civility.”

Agema said Saturday that gay people “want free medical because they’re dying (when they’re) between 30 and 44 years old.”

“To me, it’s a moral issue. It’s a Biblical issue. Traditional marriage is where it should be and it’s in our platform. Those in our party who oppose traditional marriage are wrong,” he told a Republican gathering in Michigan.

Agema has a penchant for disparaging gay people. He wrote a post on Facebook in March calling homosexuals “filthy.” A month later, he compared homosexuality to alcoholism during a radio interview.
