Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) on Tuesday defended his job performance amid prostitution allegations levied against him, telling the New Jersey Star-Ledger he “hasn’t missed a beat.”

From the interview, published Wednesday:

“From going ahead and having a major hearing on Benghazi with former Secretary Hillary Clinton, to getting Secretary John Kerry’s not only nomination hearing but his vote across the floor … I haven’t missed a beat, and I’m not going to allow baseless, anonymous smears to deviate my attention to the work on behalf of the people of New Jersey, as well as the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.”

Menendez also responded to a Dominican Republic judge who has called for his testimony in an investigation into the allegations against him:

“We’ll have our lawyer look at it, but the bottom line is they don’t need me to pursue all of the interests and issues that lie within the Dominican Republic,” Menendez said. “I don’t know what I could tell them that would change anything.”
