Fox News host Megyn Kelly and Rep. Al Green (D-TX) talked over each other for several minutes Tuesday night during a heated debate on the Ferguson grand jury decision.
Kelly confronted Green, one of the members of the Congressional Black Caucus who made the “hands up, don’t shoot” gesture on the House floor Monday night, about the fact that some black witnesses testified before the grand jury that Michael Brown did not have his hands raised when former police Officer Darren Wilson fatally shot him.
“That’s enough, sir, to say there is no probable cause to charge somebody,” Kelly said.
“You had other witnesses who said things that were totally different from what you read,” Green countered. “If you only read one side of it, you’re only going to present a side that seems to favor the prosecution. So you shouldn’t do that, Megyn, you really shouldn’t do that.”
Kelly then asked Green how the Ferguson grand jury decision could have been about race if the witnesses who said Brown charged Wilson were black. Green said that “African-Americans can make mistakes too,” prompting Kelly to say that Green was calling the black witnesses racist.
“No, I’m not saying anybody is racist,” Green protested. “You said this. You’re bringing race into this.”
“You are, you’re part of the Congressional Black Caucus,” Kelly shot back. “They’re the ones who released the statement that black lives have no value and you can kill black men with impunity!”
“You cannot give one side of a story and expect it to become the truth. You’re not doing that properly,” Green continued. “You have to let both sides be heard. And if both sides are heard, and you have conflicting evidence, a good prosecutor gets an indictment and then he takes that to a trial.”
