The attorney appointed to represent Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell (R ) released a letter on Thursday, stating that key state agencies did not give any public funds, grants, or contracts to the company run by Jonnie Williams, the political donor whose relationship to McDonnell and his family is now under investigation.

McDonnell’s lawyer, Anthony Troy, wrote that Williams or other employees of his company, Star Scientific, met with state officials on three occasions between 2010 and 2012.

From The Richmond Times-Dispatch:

Troy’s letter says Williams made no “direct requests” for state benefits in the first two meetings, and the state didn’t offer any. In the meeting with Wilson, the Star salesperson asked that the state consider adding Star’s Anatabloc product to the items available under the state health plan, but Wilson denied the request.
