Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s campaign said Tuesday that they were asking the FBI to investigate how a secret recording, obtained by Mother Jones, was made of senior aides in February discussing opposition research on Ashley Judd, then a prospective challenger in the Kentucky Senate race.
In a statement to CNN, campaign manager Jesse Benton said that “we’ve always said the Left will stop at nothing to attack Sen. McConnell, but Watergate-style tactics to bug campaign headquarters is above and beyond.”
David Corn, Washington Bureau chief and author of the Mother Jones article, said the tape was provided “last week by a source who requested anonymity.”
