At the second Missouri Senate debate Thursday night, Sen. Claire McCaskill (D) was asked what the national press would say if her opponent, Rep. Todd Akin (R) was elected.
McCaskill said she isn’t concerned about the national press, but said an Akin win would be a heartbreaker.
“If I lose this race I’ll hate it because I want our government to reflect our values,” she said. “And I think Akin’s view is very narrow and leaves a lot of people out.”
“So I’ll be sad but I respect the voters,” she said. “And I could care less about the national press.”
In response to the same question, Akin said he’s in the mainstream of Missouri.
“I have a pretty good sense of where the people are,” Akin said, before talking about the Second Amendment and his oppostion to Obamacare. “My views are very much in sync with the voters in this state.”
