House Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) said Sunday that only time will tell if President Obama’s outreach to Republicans is a genuine attempt to work with the GOP.

“I believe any time that both parties are talking, it’s a good thing,” McCarthy said on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “Now, this should have happened four years ago. I’m glad it’s happening. But is this about politics or is this genuine?”

“Only time will tell,” he said, in answer his own question. “He walked off his campaign election — election night after giving a speech and he made two phone calls, Nancy Pelosi and Steve Israel, the head of the Democratic [Congressional] Campaign Committee. So, is this about winning the House or is it about governing for all of America? And only time will tell that.”
