House Majority Whip Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) was elected to replace Rep. Eric Cantor as Majority Leader on Thursday, a Republican leadership aide told TPM outside the room.

There was a round of applause inside the room as the results were announced.

McCarthy beat Tea Partier Rep. Raul Labrador (R-ID) in the House election.
