Sen. John McCain predicted that the first debate between President Obama and Mitt Romney on Wednesday would receive more viewers than any presidential debate in history in an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

“I think you’re going to see more viewers at this first debate than you have in history,” McCain said.

McCain noted the importance of the large number of debates during the Republican primary and said debates were playing an increasingly important role in campaigns. He predicted both candidates would be prepared and declined to say who he thinks is the favorite.
