Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) declined to rule out raising tax rates on the wealthiest Americans Tuesday during an interview with Fox News.

“I’m in favor of most anything that would get an agreement,” McCain said, responding to a question on whether he would get on board with raising rates in order to reach a deal. “But it seems to me, why are we focusing on that narrow part of this entire scenario? In other words, the tax rates. Why aren’t we also giving equal weight, in the media and in our debates, on the entitlements?”

Two weeks ago, McCain told Fox News that he was opposed to raising rates. “I would be very much opposed to raising tax rates, but I do believe we can close a lot of loopholes,” he said.
