Sen. John McCain said that President Obama’s announcement Friday that his administration would stop deporting DREAMers, undocumented immigrants brought here as children by their parents, and begin to give them work permits was meant as a “distraction” from poor economic news that has haunted his campaign recently.

“This is obviously a way to divert attention from the very bad news the president has had over the last three or four weeks,” McCain said on NBC’s “Meet the Press” Sunday. “I think that’s very clear.”
