After the Boston Herald ran a story Friday showing a parked vehicle belonging to Rep. Ed Markey (D-MA) blocking a Boston fire department standpipe and fire door, Massachusetts Republicans issued a swift response blasting the U.S. Senate hopeful for the violation.

Kirsten Hughes, chair of the MassGOP, said the incident demonstrates Markey is “out of touch” and needled the liberal congressman for his Maryland residency.

“I don’t know how they do it in Chevy Chase, Maryland, but in Boston, the rest of us have to pay to park or else we get the boot,” Hughes said. “Actions speak louder than words and when a politician acts as if the rules don’t apply to him, it shows just how out of touch he really is.”

The Herald published a photo that showed a “No Parking” sign directly in front of Markey’s Ford Escape. Markey was attending a rally on sequestration cuts in Boston, according to the Herald.

Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated Rep. Ed Markey parked illegally. As the Boston Herald indicates, Markey was instructed to park in an alley owned by the Action for Boston Community Development, the agency holding the event. We regret the error.
