Mass General Hospital: ‘We Have Performed Several Amputations’

Doctor Peter Fagenholz, a surgeon at Massachusetts General Hospital, confirmed late Monday that “yes, we have performed several amputations.”

Speaking at a press conference at 10 p.m. Monday, the doctor said there are a large number of shrapnel injuries, largely of the lower extremities, among the 29 patients the hospital is treating from the explosions at the Boston Marathon. Fagenholz said he personally performed six operations.
