The second ad in Rep. Ed Markey’s Massachusetts Senate campaign focuses on the congressman’s efforts to hold BP responsible for the 2010 gulf oil spill.

“When BP tried to avoid responsibility, one man said no,” the narrator says in the ad. “Ed Markey held them accountable.”

Markey endorses the ad at the end, saying, “I approve this message because I believe polluters must pay.”

The ad also touts the endorsements of Sierra Club and the League of Conservation Voters. It began airing statewide Thursday.

Markey is battling Rep. Stephen Lynch (D-MA) in the Democratic primary ahead of the June special election for John Kerry’s Senate seat.
