Rep. Ed Markey (D-MA) conveyed a sense of urgency to supporters on Wednesday, citing a Republican poll that said he was in a “dead heat” with Republican businessman Gabriel Gomez in the Massachusetts special U.S. Senate election.

“Election Day is getting closer — and so are the polling numbers in Massachusetts,” Markey said in the fundraising email. “A rash of new polling is showing this race still in the single digits. One poll even has our opponent within one point.”

The survey Markey referred to was conducted by GOP pollster McLaughlin and was commissioned by Republican donor and activist John Jordan. But the vast majority of polling data has shown the Democrat with consistent — albeit varying — leads. In fact, along with the findings from McLaughlin, only one other poll since the beginning of May — also conducted by a Republican outlet — has shown Markey with a lead of fewer than four percentage points.

The PollTracker Average currently shows Markey with a nearly 6-point edge ahead of the June 25 special election.
