Consolidated Edison’s 250,000 consumers who are without power in lower Manhattan after superstorm Sandy could wait up to a week to have power returned to them, reports the Wall Street Journal.
On Monday night, a top official from the utility company said it could take up to a week to restore power to the bulk of Manhattan neighborhoods plunged into darkness Monday evening.
John Miksad, senior vice president of electric operations, said late Monday that he couldn’t give a clear timetable. Con Ed was expecting major flooding, he said, but the utility was caught off guard by a tidal surge that topped pre-storm estimates.
