Republicans in the Pennsylvania legislature delayed debate on a mandatory ultrasound bill Thursday. The bill, which would have forced women seeking an abortion to undergo a mandatory ultrasound including “transvaginal” ultrasounds in some cases. The decision postpones what could become a political firestorm similar to Virginia and Alabama, which debated similar bills.
It’s unclear whether the delay on the bill is for the entire year or until after the state’s April 24 primary. The bill had lost 17 co-sponsors as of Thursday afternoon, according to the ACLU of Pennsylvania.
