Police were investigating an apparent hunting accident after a man suffered a gunshot wound to the head Sunday while fishing, the Kennebec Journal reported.

Scott Fraley, 54, was fishing with friends in West Gardiner, Maine when he was struck in the head, according to the newspaper. The wound was apparently superficial, according to District Game Warden Robert Decker.

Decker told the newspaper that the alleged shooter, 21-year-old Bryan Hickey, “accidentally shot at the victim” while hunting. Marine patrol officers investigating the incident found a Chinese-made rifle with a folded bayonet attached.

Hunting on Sundays is illegal in Maine. The incident was still under investigation, according to the Journal.
