A 52-year-old Maine man was sentenced on Wednesday to nearly six years in prison for threatening to kill Sen. Joseph Lieberman (I-CT), Rep. Steve King (R-IA) and Maine Governor Paul LePage (R) and possessing a firearm after being convicted of a felony, the Justice Department announced.
Michael R. Thomas sent the threatening letters in 2010 and 2011. His letter to Lieberman said the senator was “a treasonous traitor & should be shot dead … it is only a matter of time until you receive constitutional justice at the point of a gun.” King and LePage received similar letters. When FBI agents searched Thomas’ home in March 2011 they found a .45 caliber pistol, which Thomas could not possess because of a prior felony stalking conviction in Massachusetts.
