Former Sen. Dick Lugar (R-IN) told MSNBC Wednesday morning that he believes state and national Republicans are glad the tea party didn’t enjoy much success in the 2012 elections.
“I believe that this is generally the consensus of state committees and the national committee, Lugar said. “Republicans who really want to see a majority in the Senate know that in order to do that, there really have to be able candidates, or able to go the route, who have a sense, at least, of independent thought that appeals not only to core Republicans, but likewise to many independent voters. And even bring some Democratic crossovers. We’re going to have a majority when we have really a large majority of the public behind us.”
