Indiana Republican Sen. Richard Lugar, who lost his reelection bid earlier this month to Indiana state treasurer Richard Mourdock, said he doesn’t plan to be part of Mourdock’s campaign. Responding to whether he would campaign for or even vote for his former opponent, Lugar offered a tepid endorsement. “I’ve indicated that I hope that Republicans in Indiana will support,” he said, “because I support my leader Mitch McConnell in getting a Republican majority.”

Lugar also said that he had offered advice to Mourdock on how to be an effective senator. Lugar has made a point to defend the necessity of compromising in politics, whereas Mourdock has stated that America needs less compromise in Washington. Aside from that, Lugar said he doesn’t plan on actively campaigning.
