Lower Manhattan’s nearly week-long power outage following in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, which was alleviated for upwards of 650,000 residents late Friday evening, had a visible effect on the number of “check-ins” made by users of Foursquare, a geolocation social network. Foursquare, a New York-based company, published the following map Friday showing check-ins across the island of Manhattan before and after the storm:
