Louisiana Rep. Rodney Alexander (R), who switched parties in 2004, announced his retirement on Tuesday, Town Talk reports:

Alexander, R-Quitman, who hadn’t yet drawn serious opposition for 2014, said he’s grown weary of brutal party politics in Washington and fundraising.

“I’ve represented the best people in the world; it’s been a privilege and I’ve enjoyed it,” said Alexander, 66. “But I never wanted to be in Washington all my life.”
