Former GOP operative Roger Stone, now a top adviser to Libertarian presidential candidate Gary Johnson, told TPM Thursday he sees a path for Johnson to grab votes by leveraging marijuana legalization iniatives on the ballot in several states to peel off support from Mitt Romney and President Obama. Johnson is an ardent supporter of pop legalization, and Stone said that stance could help him win votes as legalization supporters head to the polls in states like Colorado, Oregon and Washington.

Stone said the Johnson campaign — and the Johnson-supporting super PAC Stone runs — will be running TV ads later in the cycle. In states where voters are weighing pot legalization, those ads will likely play up Johnson’s support for the cause.
