Samuel Mullet Sr., the leader of a break-away Amish cult in Ohio, has been found guilty of hate crimes charges related to a string of beard cutting incidents, the Associated Press reports. Federal authorities charged Mullet and other members of his clan back in November. Lawyers for a conservative group that intervened in the case, as well as lawyers for the defendants, argued that the Hate Crimes Act wasn’t intented to be used for intra-religious disputes.
