Oral arguments on the Defense of Marriage Act next month could be a two-hour affair. On Wednesday, lawyers on both sides urged the Supreme Court to more than double the allotted time for oral arguments by holding separate, consecutive arguments on the two issues to be argued before the court, SCOTUSblog reports.
Instead of 60 minutes to argue both the constitutionality of Section 3 of DOMA as well as the court’s authority to decide the issue, lawyers urged the court Wednesday to allot first 65 minutes to the question of the court’s authority and then 60 minutes for arguments over the constitutionality of the law.
