In light of the recent drop in applicants, as well as the reality that recent law school graduates are facing the lowest employment rate in 18 years, the WSJ reports that certain law schools have begun reducing enrollment in future classes. The move, which legal experts have described as ‘unprecedented,’ will see 10 of the approximately 200 law schools in the United States reduce the size of their incoming classes.

The reductions come in light of a 14 percent drop in the number of law school applicants in 2011, according to numbers from the Law School Admission Council. Says Frank Wu, dean of the University of California’s San Francisco-based Hastings College of the Law, “This is long overdue.”
