Larry Wilmore on Wednesday could not quite fathom the antics of Bloomberg columnist and MSNBC contributor Mark Halperin, known best for his confounding punditry and referring to the President as “a dick.”

In an interview on Halperin’s Bloomberg-produced show, “With All Due Respect,” an interview with Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) began to take a strange turn as Halperin returned to question after question demanding evidence of Cruz’s Cuban heritage.

By the time Halperin was asking about Cruz’s “favorite dish” from Cuba, the host of “The Nightly Show” was stunned.

“Answer me fake Cuban man!” Wilmore said.

Wilmore thought the food question would be the end of it, but Halperin pushed on, asking for yet more proof, in the form of Cuban music.

“One of us is not leaving this interview until he establishes his level of Cubanity,” Wilmore said.

Finally, Halperin pulled out the show-stopper: he asked Cruz to welcome Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) into the presidential race, “en Espanol.”

“Okay this is literally turning into a Spanish Inquisition,” Wilmore said to applause.
