Host Larry Wilmore and his contributors tackled the hottest election night results on Wednesday’s episode of “The Nightly Show,” including Houston’s anti-discrimination ordinance.

After the Texas Supreme Court ordered a people’s vote on the ordinance, opponents — including Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) and Lieutenant Gov. Dan Patrick (R) — killed the ordinance by making it about bathrooms. Namely, that men, under the bill’s gender identity non-discrimination clause, would enter women’s bathrooms for nefarious reasons and couldn’t be kicked out.

“Nightly Show” contributor Grace Parra is a Houston native and had some insight on why the statute failed.

“But I’m in Texas,” Parra said. “And everything’s bigger in Texas, especially the fear of progress. I mean, Imma be real with you, Larry. Nothing scares the shit out of us more.”
