Rep. Kerry Bentivolio (R-MI), the former reindeer farmer who was defeated in the Republican primary for Michigan’s 11th Congressional District in August, is “seriously considering” running as a write-in, according to a report from the Michigan Information & Research Service on Monday.
Bentivolio (pictured) is the tea party-aligned congressman who was defeated in the primary to Republican establishment-aligned challenger David Trott. Trott cleanly defeated Bentivolio 66 percent to 34 percent with all precincts reporting, according to The Detroit Free Press.
Bentivolio is also the lawmaker who said it would be a “dream come true” to impeach President Barack Obama.
Roll Call lists Michigan’s 11th Congressional District as Favored Republican.
Stu Sandler, a campaign consultant for Trott, pointed out that in 2012 Bentivolio called on former state Sen. Nancy Cassis to end her write-in campaign against him in the race to replace former Rep. Thaddeus McCotter (R-MI).
“Bentivolio should follow his own advice after voters spoke in the primary and supported Dave Trott with a historic margin of victory,” Sandler said.
