Senior Trump advisor Kellyanne Conway said in an interview on ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday that the President will not release his tax returns.
“You also have more than 200,000 petition the White House calling on President Trump to release his full tax returns with all information needed to verify Emoluments Clause compliance,” George Stephanopoulos said. “Whenever 100,000 petition, that triggers a White House response. So what is the White House response?”
“The White House response is that he’s not going to release his tax returns,” Conway said. “We litigated this all through the election. People didn’t care.”
60 percent of respondents to a Pew Research Center survey released on Jan. 10 said that Trump has a responsibility to release his tax returns.
The data in the survey was obtained from a sample size of 1,502 adults interviewed via telephone from January 4-9, 2017 with a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 2.9 percentage points.
Throughout his campaign, Trump claimed that he could not release his tax returns due to an ongoing audit.
In September 2016, however, Trump admitted that he could in fact make the returns public at any time but implied that he saw no political advantage to doing so.
