A panel in the Kansas state House of Representatives on Tuesday passed a resolution to block an expansion of Medicaid coverage, the Wichita Eagle reported.

The measure is expected to pass in the full House and it could provide Gov. Sam Brownback (R) with support if he opts against expanding the program, which could provide Medicaid coverage to about 226,000 Kansans. Brownback has not yet said if he’ll sign off on the Medicaid expansion, a provision of the Affordable Care Act that has been accepted by eight Republican governors nationwide.
