Jon Stewart tackled “Fangate,” the hubbub that former Florida Gov. Charlie Crist (D) kicked up when he brought a fan to the podium during a debate with current Gov. Rick Scott (R), on Thursday night’s “The Daily Show.”

“It’s hard to imagine this is our country,” Stewart lamented.

Stewart was incredulous that Rick Scott initially refused to participate in the debate over the fan.

“He can’t not participate,” he said. “A debate must have at least two parties to be considered a debate. Otherwise it’s a masturbate. It’s just one.”

Stewart guessed that Crist must have needed the fan to provide “a small amount of respite for his presumably sweaty balls.”

“Look we all know what’s happening here,” Stewart said. “It’s Florida. There’s a humid environment in Florida. Crist’s boys got sweaty so the former governor pops down and picks up a fan at, uh, what do you call it there, Bed Balls and Beyond.”

Stewart then noted that this exact scenario had played out before, when Crist was running for the Republican nomination for governor in 2006. Crist brought a fan to that debate, but both candidates shared the fan.

“Sadly those days of bipartisan accommodation are long gone,” Stewart bemoaned. “And while we were once a nation of ball fan sharers, in today’s divided politics, we would rather stew in our own testicular moisture then reach across the aisle to bring a fresh wind of compromise.”
