John Oliver had a little fun Sunday with a former president’s soon-to-be-released salacious love letters as he returned to HBO’s “Last Week Tonight.”

Last week, The New York Times published a sneak peek of the steamy correspondence President Warren G. Harding wrote to his mistress, describing the letters as “perhaps the most sexually explicit ever by an American president.” The Library of Congress plans to release the letters to the public on July 29.

“These are not eager, jealous and wistful love letters,” Oliver said before dramatically reading out a passage. “These are smutty f*ck notes. So raunchy, a 40-year-old mother of two should be reading them on her kindle.”

“I’ll say this for Warren G. Harding, as a president he was terrible, but as an R&B lyricist he was way ahead of his time,” he quipped.
